Welcome to the Alameda Police Department's Home Page. In the spirit of community policing in the informational age, this site is dedicated to providing our citizens and the world access to our department. We hope that the information found here will help to strengthen the community/police team.
The City of Alameda, incorporated in 1884, is an island community located in the heart of Northern California's San Francisco bay. Alameda is home to Coast Guard Island and Alameda Point (formerly Naval Air Station Alameda) which is 2800 acres, comprising 1/3 of the city's area and is being developed as an important source of new businesses, jobs, housing, recreational facilities, community and cultural services. A significant portion of the City of Alameda is devoted to parks, shoreline, marinas and beaches.
Alameda is only minutes away from the Oakland International Airport and the Oakland Coliseum Complex where the NFL Oakland Raiders play. The Raiders even have their main offices and practice facility in our city. Alameda is quickly becoming known as "Silicon Island" for the many cutting edge technology companies, such as Wind River Systems Inc. and Lucent Technologies. We are an ethnically, culturally and economically diverse city, with a population of approximately 80,000 residents.
